Projects we are currently working on

Mt Vernon Park - Albert Valley Biodiversity Corridor (Christchurch)

Mt Vernon Park is 240 hectare park on steep erodible loess soils on the northern Port Hills, Christchurch, Canterbury https://www.mtvernonpark.org.nz/about

It is administered by a trust and is run entirely by local volunteers. It contains multiple walking, biking and climbing areas including the iconic rapaki track and has two significant catchments which flow into the Heathcote river.

Seed To Tree is assisting with Mt Vernon Park’s vision to create a native forest corridor from the valley floor to the Summit Road, along the Albert Valley. Seed To Tree is delivering weed control, site preparation and ecological advice services for this project.

Tāne’s Tree Trust - Seed Islands demonstration areas

Trees That Count  (TTC) in collaboration with Tanes Tree Trust  (TTT) have initiated a project funded by Z Energy to establish a network of demonstration planting areas nationwide with seed islands as a method to accelerate restoration of native forest on a large scale.

Establishing ‘seed islands’ for accelerating large-scale establishment of native forest is a pragmatic and cost-effective option aimed at re-introducing or boosting local seed sources of key native forest species.

Seed To Tree is involved with this project to deliver a Canterbury focused project highlighting the transition of recently retired pasture to native forest, e.g., marginal erosion-prone hill country, riparian zones.

Te Ara Kākāriki - Greendots

Te Ara Kākāriki is a charitable trust with the goal of increasing biodiversity within the Selwyn District in Canterbury.

Their mission is to create a ‘greenway’ – a corridor of native biodiversity ‘Greendots’ between the Waimakiriri and Rakaia rivers, linking the mountains to the sea, Te Waihora Lake Ellesmere and Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula.

Seed To Tree is providing ecological advice and planting services to Te ara Kākāriki Greenway Canterbury Trust.
